The Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) Online Course offers a flexible training option for busy healthcare professionals. The complete course is delivered in three parts.

  • Part 1 delivers the cognitive learning through Web-based, self-paced modules.
  • Parts 2 and 3 require students to meet with an American Heart Association Instructor to complete a hands-on skills practice session and a skills test. These are included with the online course purchase.

Upon successful completion of all three parts students receive their healthcare provider course completion card. This course is an ideal option for healthcare providers seeking an alternative to traditional classroom training for first-time or renewal certification.

Average time to complete: 1hr. 30min.

WHAT TO WEAR: 
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing to class. You will be practicing skills that require you to work on your hands and knees, and the course requires bending, standing, and lifting. If you have any physical condition that might prevent you from engaging in these activities, please tell your instructor. We may be able to adjust the equipment if you have back, knee, or hip problems.

The AHA's Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care and the 2015 American Heart Association and American Red Cross Update for First Aid. This course is designed to prepare students to provide first aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner.

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online is the eLearning portion of the Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED blended learning course and is designed to teach students the cognitive information needed for first aid, CPR, and AED training.

Upon successful completion of both the online and hands-on portions of the course, students receive a Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course completion card, valid for two years.

Audience

Heartsaver courses are intended for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements. These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.

Hands-On Details

The hands-on skills practice and testing session are conducted in-person with an AHA BLS or Heartsaver Instructor. Upon successful completion of both then online and hands-on portions of the course, students receive a Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course completion card, valid for two years.

  • Give effective breaths by using mouth-to-mouth or a mask for all age groups
  • Demonstrate how to use an AED on an adult
  • Perform high-quality CPR for a child*
  • Demonstrate how to use an AED on a child*
  • Perform high-quality CPR for an infant*
  • Describe when and how to help a choking adult or child
  • Demonstrate how to help a choking infant*

*Child/Infant Module is optional
