BLS Provider

Basic Life Support (BLS)

 

The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Who should take this course?

The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

What does this course teach?

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
  • Important early use of an AED
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device
  • Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

COVID POLICY UPDATES:

We have always kept our class sizes small, but we are now reducing the number of students in each class to help with social distancing. We are also disinfecting our equipment more often as well as regularly disinfecting busy areas. We also ask students to wash their hands often and use our provided hand sanitizer. 

Consider an Online Hybrid Option. We are adding more appointments for the online/in-person hybrid FastTrack classes where you can do most of the learning online. These offer the same AHA certification as the classroom- based courses but significantly reduces the in-person time.

HeartCode® BLS online course with skills session

The Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) Online Course offers a flexible training option for busy healthcare professionals. The complete course is delivered in three parts.

  • Part 1 delivers the cognitive learning through Web-based, self-paced modules.
  • Parts 2 and 3 require students to meet with an American Heart Association Instructor to complete a hands-on skills practice session and a skills test. These are included with the online course purchase.

Upon successful completion of all three parts students receive their healthcare provider course completion card. This course is an ideal option for healthcare providers seeking an alternative to traditional classroom training for first-time or renewal certification.

**The date and time you select is for your skills varification. Once you have completed the online course please make sure to print and bring thecertificate with you.**

What does this course teach?

Mandatory Pre-Course Requirements:

The AHA requires all students taking ACLS to pass the Pre-Course Self-Assessment exam with a score of 70% or greater.

PALS - Instructor-Led Training

The AHA’s PALS Course is for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children. The goal of PALS is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.

HeartCode® PALS Online with skills session

HeartCode® PALS Online is the online portion of PALS blended learning that will prepare students for hands-on skills session with an AHA PALS Instructor or on a simulation station.

  • Updated to reflect new science in the 2020 American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR & ECC
  • HeartCode® PALS is the AHA’s blended learning delivery method for the AHA’s PALS Course. HeartCode® blended learning delivers quality resuscitation education regardless of where providers are located and gives them more control to complete the course at their own pace.
  • Providers first complete the online portion of HeartCode® PALS and then complete a hands-on skills session with an AHA PALS Instructor or on a simulation station.
  • To enter the course, participants must complete a pre-course self-assessment.
  • The PALS Course is for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients.
  • Learners may choose to take the course in the following languages: U.S. English and International English (IVE)

Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Who should take this course?

The AHA’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements, or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. Examples of people who should take this course are:

 *Contruction workers

 *School Teachers and other school staff

 *Fitness Instructors

 *Security Gaurds (unless employed at a hospital, then you need BLS)

 *Boat Capitains with Coastguard requirements and other fishing industry employees.

 *Persons working in maunfacturing, engineering, and other non-medical industries.

The AHA Heartsaver First Aid Course is designed for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements. Any person working in California, in a residential care setting.

Heartsaver® First Aid Training blended course

3.50 Hour Online Course

Heartsaver First Aid Online is the eLearning portion of the Heartsaver First Aid blended learning course, designed to teach students the cognitive information needed for first aid training. 

Upon successful completion of both the online and hands-on portions of the course, students receive a Heartsaver First Aid course completion card, valid for two years.

After completing this course, students should be able to:

  • List the priorities, roles, and responsibilities of the first aid rescuer
  • Describe the key steps in first aid
  • Remove protective gloves
  • Find the problem
  • Describe the assessment and first aid actions for the following life-threatening conditions: heart attack, difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, and stroke
  • Use an epinephrine pen
  • Control bleeding and bandaging
  • Recognize elements of common injuries
  • Recognize elements of common illnesses
  • Describe how to find information on preventing illness and injury
  • Recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid rescuers
